The problem with the TDI (in quarter mile terms) is that it's autobox cannot handle elevated power levels. Hell, it can't even handle the stock 90 hp. As a result, anyone who builds this thing up uses 5 or 6 speed manual transmissions. Of course with every shift you have to lift, causing the engine to lose boost.

I just gotta figure out which RWD manual trans would handle the power of a stoutly-built 1.9 or 2.0 TDI. A V6 TDI would be even better, but I don't know how available those are in the US. The next challenge would be fabbing motor and trans mounts, and finding a bellhousing to mate up the engine & trans. The custom length driveshaft is easy enough.
